Recruitment Paradise or Chief Scouts Nightmare?

Each time the world cup comes around, new stars are born, the transfer market goes crazy and the world is an open mic stage to stardom for every footballer involved. Who will be this year’s previously unidentified flying object and earn a big money transfer to one of Europe’s football powerhouses just like Colombia James Rodriguez did in Brazil 2012.

The Sensible Soccer World Cup blog will bring scouting know how direct from the battlefield of English Premier League recruitment directors and chief scouts. Our blog will be opening the lid on just who is being watched ahead of Russia’s six-week footballing bonanza.

Report Number 12 - Ismaila Sarr

The Rennes forward joined the French outfit from Ligue 1 counterparts Metz in the summer of 2017 for a reported fee of £15.2m. His career to date in France shows 10 goals in 60 appearances and for Senegal he has found the net 3 times in 11 appearances. Interest has been reported from Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona as the young forwards stock continues to rise.

Sarr is a notoriously unpredictable wide forward who is seemingly starting to evolve into being a central based player more than capable of operating as a primary #9. However his competency to play as a wide right or wide left forward has added variance to his game when in 1v1 situations where he is proficient at going either inside or outside. Overall he clearly provides any would be suitor with both talent and options.

Applying his serious pace is a key strength of Sarr, in transition he utilises such an aptitude by directing his ball carrying into space to create opportunities primarily for others. His decision making is still raw and his technical decisiveness in crossing situations inconsistent but the potential is clear to see. Sarr does appear a self-aware person admitting publicly he has a lot to learn but that he also has that willingness and desire to do so.

Senegal are in a group alongside Poland, Colombia and Japan who despite all qualifying each of them conceded heavily in the process, 10,18 and 7 goals respectively so this is a group where goals will be scored and maybe Group H is a strikers dream ticket.
